GEGENORT - THE VIRTUAL MINE
The project I should like to propose does not need any kind of ?artistic? lay-out. I don?t need any picture, for the simpliest reason that I speak those pictures.
Au fond de la mine, une matière première virtuelle était produite en quantités considérables.Il n?en reste plus rien, elle était si volatile qu?elle disparaissait sans laisser aucune trace à peine produite. C?est une matière «dont la fonction est d?être porteuse et transmettrice d?information ». C?est la matière qui produit l?imagination,
elle s?appelle le langage.
Nous sommes entourés de langage comme nous le sommes d?oxygène. Mais qu?en est-il des langues disparues, des mots perdus à jamais, des dialectes opprimés ? C?est ce que la mine de Gegenort peut nous révéler.
Avant d?écrire ce texte, j?ai posé deux questions complémentaires :
* When did the mine close ?
* Are they still retired minors living in the neigbourhood ?
The answer has been very encourageous for looking to disappeared words.
THE FORMER MINERS ARE LOOKING AFTER THE PLACE AND USE IT IN A PRIVATE MUSEUM AND FOR WEDDINGS AND BIER-PARTIES ? ETC?
That means that thoses languages which were spoken down and on the way down and up might be still spoken at the surface.
Quels langages ont été parlés à Gegenort ?
* of course German. Yes, but what kind of german ? The languages of the capitalists ? of the dialect of Saarland ?
I would say, before all those foreign languages, in the ancient mine the main spoken language was the Saarland dialect.
Est-il possible de le retrouver ?? Quelqu?un le parle-t-il encore ?
* migrant languages : turkish, berber, arabic, and before spanish, italian, polish, an so on.
* prisoners of war languages : I dont know for sure, but who went down there during WWII ?
The languages are set down as layers. The eldest ones are probably fossilized, may be as dissertations in the library of the University. May be are they dead for ever, and nobody will hear them anymore. The most recent languages are still in use. We don?t notice them, because this very abondant but precious energy has for us, now, no shape, no color, no taste and doesnt smell.
The work I present is the rescovery of the spoken languages by the minors of Gegenort.
What I need is their collaboration. Together, we can bring back to daylight the buried words is as much languages as possible.
· The container will be used first as a meeting point. One can bring his words in the container. The visitors will hear them. The mine will get her flesh and blood for a short while. Words are the human side of life.
· It will be used too as an archive room. The words are not virtual anymore. Now we know how to fix them for eternity. The languages will be put on tape (I hope on CD) and archive.
· Le container servira enfin à distribuer la langue retrouvée. A quoi bon enfermer des blocs de minerai de langue dans des boîtes ? Il faut les remettre à la lumière, à l?air, au jour. Il faut que les gens d?aujourd?hui entendent ces mots qui étaient prononcés autrefois.
· Nous essaierons enfin de répandre des exemples de tous ces langages dans le monde entier. Un site internet spécial sera créé : http://www.languagesofgegenort.de
La mine morte résonnera une fois encore des mots des mineurs disparus.
