The project "Gegenort - The Virtual Mine" at the site of the Gegenort mine in Neunkirchen (Saarland, Germany ) is part of a federal model experiment initiated by the Institut für Bildung und Kultur e.V. (IBK) (Institute of Education and Culture).
The IBK research project "Entwicklung multimedialer Gestaltungskompetenz" (development of mulitmedia competence) is sponsored by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and runs for a period of three years (from October 1999 until September 2002).
It deals with the development of multimedia competence in the field of culture and education. To this end project partners from different artistic domains (visual art, music, theatre etc.) are selected throughout Germany. For the duration of the project the groups of artists develop and realize projects in which the conception of multimedia is combined with artistic work.
Our project group is the only one to represent the domain of visual art in cooperation with the Neunkircher Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH (Neunkircher Culture Association). Besides practice-oriented supporters, partners from the field of culture and media theory are involved in the analytical work.
